Fraser River / Fraser Valley Report

Sockeye Salmon still open

The fishing on the Fraser River has been incredible to say the least. Strong sockeye returns continue and are expected to get stronger over the next week. Large test sets in Johnston Strait indicate that the largest schools of sockeye are just approaching the mouth of the Fraser. We expect some great fishing over the next couple of weeks.

Some prime sockeye being caught on the Fraser this week.

Sturgeon

Sturgeon fishing continues to be excellent. Most of our guests are fishing salmon in the morning, once limited out they are catching sturgeon in the 4 to 7 foot range with some monster fish over 8 ft. We spent a day up in the canyon recently and managed to hook into some trophy sturgeon.

Paul Laggassi of Ottawa landed this beauty measuring just over 8ft or 225 cm.

The next 2 to 3 weeks should be excellent for large sturgeon. Our calendar does have some room if you're wanting to get out on the water and try your luck.

Salmon

Chinook fishing has really improved over last week, good numbers of both red & white Chinook are being caught throughout the river. Last year some of our best Chinook fishing was between August 20 & September 10, looks like this year might be the same. Sockeye fishing continues to be strong so we can expect some great fishing to last well into mid September. Once the sockeye fishery is over, we will be targeting large Chinook Salmon, early run Coho, Chum Salmon and sturgeon.

Vedder River

The Vedder River is low and clear, a few fresh Chinook being caught but mostly darker fish are now in the system. Good reports of Cultas Lake Sockeye moving through the lower river but remember these fish are to be released unharmed. For those of you who like to fish the Vedder for those early Coho, they usually start arriving last week in August. Try fishing the pools in the lower canal at first light; best success has been with cured salmon eggs fished under a float.

Our wifes also enjoy fishing for sockeye.

Harrison River

Harrison River is in great shape, quite a few sockeye jumping but not really worth fishing until mid September when these fish begin to get aggressive. There are a few Cutthroat Trout in the upper system and the lake has been fishing fairly well. Not long before the fly-fishing season is upon us, book now while we still have some dates.

The famous Idaho Boys return for their 9th strait year.

Harrison Bay Store is open 7 days a week and is now selling fishing licenses and tackle. They have a pretty good selection of tackle if you fish the Chehalis or Fraser River and local lakes.
