SLIVERS CHARTERS SALMON SPORT FISHING
Salmon fishing reports in the Alberni Inlet are currently nil. Winter Springs could move up into the Nahmint Franklin Area during the winter months if bait were to move into the inlet. The Alberni Inlet will however become very active with salmon and anglers beginning in June when the very famous Port Alberni sockeye run begins.
Barclay Sound winter spring (black mouth) fishing is currently best in San Mateo and Vernon Bay. These feeder chinook are averaging 5 to 12 pounds with some up to 20 plus pounds. During January, February, and March these great battling winter chinook will also be found at Pill
Point, Diplock and the mouth of the Bamfield Harbour. Late February and into March is usually the time of the herring spawn.
Guides and many local anglers are using hootchies and coyote spoons. Four inch coyotes that seem to be working particularly well are green/glow, green/silver, blue/silver, and nasty-boys. Effective hootchies are glow-white with green, blue-white-green colors, purple haze and army truck.
The winter waters of Barclay sound have very good clarity. Anglers using spoons or bait do not need to use flashers if they wish when the water is clear.
