| This large reservoir is about eight miles Southwest of Madras. The Metolius arm of the lake is Indian owned and requires a (1998) $4 per boat per day fee. Camping spots are hard to find. The fishing, swimming, and boating here is so good it's difficult to find open spots. Reservations in advance are pretty much a necessity during the summer months. The Kokes here can get pretty good size, 12 1/2 to 13 1/2 inches depending on the year. Since it is in the high desert the water gets warm, so the lake stratifies very nicely. This congregates the fish and makes them easier to find and catch. There seems to be a parasite that causes the fish to jump so finding them is made even easier. Look for jumping fish! Then troll right through the middle of them at the right level. Too bad camping spots are so hard to find. I love this lake as does everyone else lucky enough to visit it. |
