Approximately 40 miles Southwest of Bend, Wickiup Reservoir is a very large man made lake. It blocks the fertile Deschutes River and fluctuates as the summer progresses due to irrigation demands. The Kokanee here generally run bigger than the norm and can provide some excellent fishing to those who are skilled enough or lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time. Famous for it's "Wickiup Sandwich" this lake boots out some nice catches every year. The sandwich consists of a piece of Crawdad tail, worm, and salmon egg or corn. Twin Lakes Resorts is just across the road for those like myself who prefer not to rough it. This is the heart of some of Oregon's best fishing. There is always something good happening somewhere close to this lake. Excellent campgrounds, location, and fishing make this a favorite of many, including yours truly.
