I fished Wickiup Res on the 11th with my uncle and it was still hard fishing. We ended up with 13 on the day, in a combination of trolling, jigging and bait fishing with corn/worm combo's. Most we saw at the cleaning station was 2 guys with 21 fish. Most everyone we saw was fishing in the area of the Davis Crk. arm. Most fish were between 10-12 inches, but finally getting heavier. Water is very warm and surface temps were around 63 degrees.
We fished Odell on the 12th and should have stayed at Wickiup. Two fish in about 3 hours of fishing, both trolling with the wind. Nice, but not worth the drive.....Tom

Went to Wickiup May 6 and 7. Kokes are small. Caught 17 Saturday jigging with a Buzzbomb. Caught a 4lb Rainbow and a 6lb Brown. Went to the same spot Sunday morning and caught 9 Kokes. Overall fishing was slow. Some people were picking up fish trolling. Saw a dead baby Bass floating by my boat. The Kokanee need to get BIGGER....Mike K.

Water temp 49 in the am to 52 by late afternoon.
Fishing wasn't as hot as the weather, what a beautiful weekend. T-shirt and almost shorts except there was a light wind at times. A rough count of boats were about 60.
Trolling in the Deschutes arm or the south side did not produce many fish and the only fish I caught or saw being caught trolling were kok's. Where are all the big rainbows and browns, waiting for power bait somewhere? Jigging produced the best for kok's observing one boat catching 30 in a half hour Saturday evening. Back to that same spot Sunday and in an hour of fishing produced only 5 kok's. I didn't see any action Sunday like I did Saturday evening, but then I was only there till noon on Sunday. I figured out what worked best jigging but only had an hour to go before needing to put the boat back on the trailer. I was fishing too deep the whole time. I found that if I let the buzz bomb down till I just couldn't see it any more (about 15 feet) and then started jigging I would soon see kok's darting after it and then it was fish on! Sight fishing is the best, what fun. Time past too quickly after that and it was time to go. Caught enough for dinner, sure is good to eat those tasty kok's again....Kevin Surcher

Just thought I'd drop you aline about conditions at Wickiup for the opener... We fished Kokanee for about 3 hours on Sunday in my Kokanee hole and landed 72 of them on roe again.. They were on the small side again :( going 8 to 11" is my best guess although I really didn't measure em ....... Far smaller than what I've seen in the past anyway... Spent most the 3 days chasin browns and didn't fair all that much better landing a 24 1/2 inch approx 5 lb'r for the big one.....
In case anyone wants to know the Lake was high again this year with a few of the campsites in Gull point being under water. Snow is nowhere to be seen except in shaded areas where it was plowed and the water temp was around 49 degrees depending on where you were....
Didn't see any Kokes bigger than the ones we landed so can't say if we were just on the lil ones or thats the typical size at this time of the year........ Hope ya have a great year fishing and will report back to you if I make another run
Good Fishin To Ya........ Deral
