Wickiup Reservoir Reports
Received May 6, 1996
We arrived at Wickiup around 11:00 AM. and were on the water by 11:30. It was a
picture perfect day, very little breese, sunny, and almost warm. We could tell that the
breese had quite a bite to it though. We followed the advise of the resort operator and
headed down the reservoir looking for the right spot
. Immediately I marked fish on the
finder. We trolled using a Rainbow Trout colored Kokanee Killer tipped with a piece of
corn and on the other rod a spinner with a piece of corn and a Potski egg. The Kokanee
killer had a quick bite but no solid take. Throughout the next four hours we tried various
combinations. A frog colored Kokanee Killer lost two, a worm with corn lost two the
Rainbow Trout colored Kokanee Killer lost two, and a spinner lost one. Total for four
hours of fishing was seven lost fish ( one right at the boat ) and none in the boat. The
fish were at 15 to 20 feet deep. We came in around 3:30 PM. to releive ourselves. Talked
to another person just pulling out who said he had caught 12 using Wedding Rings with corn
and an egg. I think we should have been there earlier in the day and trolled faster to
help hook them better. Either way when we went out again my Wife wanted to put on plugs
and try for a big Brown. It was starting to get windy and kept getting windier as we
trolled and cast for big one's. It was V*E*R*Y cold and we caught nothing.
