Fished Riffe Lake on Friday and Saturday, June 19th and 20th. The weather was great but the fishing was slower than last April. We had plenty of bites, and when we hooked the we found they were 8-10 inches. A little smaller than I had expected. We caught them on wedding rings with worm/corn hook tips. I like the way Power Bait white maggots get bites. When I didn't have white corn this was an excellent substitute. Some home made lures did especially well. The best was green & gold beaded with a brass french spinner called the "Duck Special". Pink and white was better than redder colors. We saw some very nice steelhead type fishes caught at the dam. One I saw had what looked to be sea lice! Something unusual seems to have happened. I didnt think the Cowlitz runs would be able to get that far up. If any one knows more about this I would sure like them to contact me.

Riffe Lake
I fish Riffe Lake East of Mossyrock, WA. We catch 11-16 inch land locked Cohos (which a lot of people there call Kokanee) and it is open all year! Last week the fishing was kind of slow, but we still ended up with 5 nice fish 12-14". We had to troll under the surface, but not too deep. I suspect a trolled fly would have pulled in a few. I saw a couple jump completely out of the water taking something off the surface. Some folks were going deep. They had some success but it was slower that way. It looked like there were a ton of fish in various parts of the lake. I have a couple favorite spots....don't we all, and we picked up bites in all of them. Let me know if you want more info.

Riffe Lake
Went out fishing for the first time this year at Riffe Lake. Water temp was 43 deg. and fishing was slow. It took us till 1:00pm to finally find the fish due to wind and rain. The fish were not in deep waters but in small coves in depths of 10ft. to 35ft.. Once we found the combination (small green and pearl apex with corn) we limited out in 90mins. Size of fish 13" to 15".
